AZ unemployment office determines eligibility

The Arizona Unemployment Office is responsible for determining unemployed worker benefit eligibility.  The agency allows eligible individuals to receive benefits via check, direct deposits into savings and/or checking, and they also offer a benefit card that can be used as well.  For those individuals that qualify for benefits, the department will automatically enroll the recipient into the EPC or Electronic Payment Card program.   Seven days after you have filed for benefits with the Arizona Unemployment Office you can expect to get a card sent to you through the mail.  This happens if and only if you have been deemed monetarily eligible for unemployment compensation.   If you desire, the Arizona Unemployment Office has made it possible for you to view the status of your claim and pending benefits online.

For anyone that doesn’t want to use the benefit card to receive benefits, one must file a Direct Deposit Form UIB1091A with the department.  You can print out the form, fill it out, and mail it in to the provided address.  Bear in mind that there may be a waiting period for your direct deposit to be authorized.  During this time, the department sends eligible individuals paper checks so that they can continue to get benefits.  The Arizona Unemployment Office will not offer paper checks for any other reason however; this is because the department is seeking to reduce the hefty costs associated with check printing.  What’s more, by using direct deposit or benefit card methods, payments are received more timely, and there is no risk of having checks getting lost in the mail.  If you have further questions about how the unemployment office deems a person eligible for benefits or how they make payments to eligible individuals, contact the department by calling one of their call centers or by using their toll free number for contact.
